On July 20, 1969, Commander Neil Armstrong and lunar module pilot Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to set foot on another celestial body when they landed on Earth’s only natural satellite.

The Apollo 11 crew traveled nearly a quarter million miles to get to the Moon. While Armstrong and Aldrin explored the lunar surface and collected samples, command module pilot Michael Collins remained in lunar orbit in the Columbia module that would propel the crew back to planet Earth.
